| You Should Know | Cultivated

In the world of blogs, it’s an uphill battle to try to set yourself apart from everyone else. David and Damien are well on their way in creating a difference with their Cultivated blog.  We were honored when the guys reached out to us to learn more about Threads and Needles and what we are trying to do at the store.

David and Damien are “…enthusiasts who want to bring you the best on style, product, design and culture” and what we love about their blog is that they are working to showcase a west coast centric prespective on all aspects of design and fashion. The guys write, shoot, edit and produce all of the content on their blog and you can see their efforts through well curated and crafted posts.

One of the joys of working at our store is the opportunity to meet interesting, like-minded individuals like David and Damien who, like us, are just trying to put their stamp in the fashion and design world.

See our wonderful feature on Cultivated and peruse their blog to explore all things style, design, product and culture.

| You Should Know | The Sartorialist
Woke up this morning and found this bit of delight on instagram. Scott Schuman aka The Sartorialist is releasing his second book of street style photography on Aug 28th.
Why the excitement? Because Scott Schuman basically re-started the trend of street style photography with his blog, The Sartorialist. After leaving his position as director of a fashion showroom to take care of his daughter in 2005, Scott began carrying his digital camera around New York City and photographing people he found compelling. He wanted to show how people interpret fashion inspiration from runway shows and incorporate it into their daily life.
Since those humble beginnings, Scott and his site, The Sartorialist, have been the go-to resource for fashionistas and the higher-up’s in the fashion industry. Scott has worked on campaigns for a number of companies in the fashion industry and he has become the first millionaire blogger with his site, The Sartorialist.
Not bad for a guy who just picked up a camera and followed his heart. Looking forward to the book and sharing a few photos with you guys when it comes out.

| You Should Know | Chromeography
Great design is everywhere and Chromeography shows how this is best represented in the simplest and smallest things. The assemblage of imagery (with an emphasis on car badges) flows through the site just perfectly.
But the site isn’t just car logo’s - bicycles, espresso makers, scooters and camera logos are all present on the site - so head over to Chromeography for a healthy dose of font nerdery, cars and Americana.

| You Should Know | Brooklyn Watches

Etsy has recently started producing videos in collaboration with its vendors. The latest video in Etsy’s “Handmade Protraits” series is of David Sokosh of Brooklyn Watches. David, a former gallery owner, turned the perils of recession into a new adventure in creating timepieces from vintage swiss pocket watches.

We are always in awe of people who take the time to create unique products and David falls in the same category of designers and craftspeople that we respect and adore.

Brand Spotlight | Rivieras Leisure Shoes
We ALL have worn slip-on’s at some point in our lives. Whether it was a pair that our parents put on our feet as a kid or the checkered vans slip-on that we wore during the teenage years, the slip-on shoe is just a part of us.
The Rivieras Leisure Shoe takes the slip-on that we know so well and adds a touch of classic sophistication and modern update to bring us the perfect summer shoe. The brand was created in 2009 by Dan Amzallag and Fabrizio Corveddu. Their design takes inspiration from the light-weight espadrilles shoe that was popular in the 50’s in Spain’s Costa Blanca.
Let’s not get this twisted though. These shoes are as functional as they are beautiful. The leather lined in-soles, breathable canvas and cotton mesh uppers and rubber sole make the shoe as comfortable as they are stylish.
These shoes are moving fast. Literally. We sold two as we were opening the boxes up, so come by and get your pair for that perfect Sunday stroll.
